Joe Vitale Jr. - "Never Look Back"

They always say write what you know.   So I did with my song “Never Look Back” from my debut album “Dancing With Shadows”. Over the past 15 years, I've been working very hard to make it in the music industry like so many other musicians. It's tough to navigate and easy to be destructive if not kept in check. One day I was working in the studio and starting writing a new song. I hadn’t even titled it yet but it seemed to have a very powerful bass line and groove the more I worked on it, and it practically wrote itself. Like so many other singer/songwriters we put all our emotions, feelings, life circumstances into our work and I was going through a particularly difficult time-- but was determined to push forward.

With all my music, I want to give people hope and strength. Then as I hopped on a mic to throw a demo vocal track down (so I would remember the melody later), came the hook of the song “Never Look Back”.  I wanted the track to be heavy like a Nine Inch Nail song but have the lyrics be positive and strong.  I drew from my faith in Christ and what it's  like when you are truly walking in the valley of the shadow of death. I decided, along with a positive message of always moving forward and never looking back on your life’s decisions, that I would base the song around Psalm 23. I discuss the trials and tribulations of life as the storm of life presses against you, and how no matter what is thrown my way, I will push through this and come out on top with God’s help.

Even today when I am performing this song I sometimes have to remind myself to not look back. I am where I am because this is where God wants me to be and this is his will. From this I can move forward knowing I am on the right path wherever it may lead as long as I am in His will. I only hope that this song will bring others strength when they need it most.
