If you like abandoned ships, and who doesn't, a trip to Staten Island is all you need.
You might have seen the old Arthur Kill ship graveyard used as a backdrop in movies or TV shows such as Elementary.
The site isn't open to the public but people have been flying drones over it recently. If you're in a car you can just catch a glimpse of this rusty sculpture garden off the side of Arthur Kill Road. For a while after WWII it was a legitimate scrapyard, busting up ships for the metal. But there were too many ships and they couldn't keep up. After a while people just started leaving their ships there to rust and ooze nasty chemicals.
This industrial wasteland is a haunting reminder of what environmental negligence leads to.
